Potenza Picena is a delightful seaside town in the province of Macerata. It is characterised by abundant tourist flows during summer, but these drastically decrease during the other periods.
During encounters with the local community the need for the development of a relevant incoming tourism flow strategy for the low season period clearly emerged. The business owners in the historical centre and the nearby areas gave their availability to be part of a wider tourism project that includes not only the sea element, but also cultural, gastronomic and landscape factors. However, the same operators denounced a challenging fragmentation, which could lead to a decreased competitiveness on the market.
Therefore, our contribution addressed the necessity of allowing the reception of numerous groups.
Our solution was the development of a widespread accommodation facility throughout the municipality. If, on one hand, the idea of a widespread hotel appeared too binding for the operators, the winning idea of a widespread B&B granted an elevated level of autonomy yet allowing a spirit of cooperation and reciprocal help.
In only a few months, the Monte Santo widespread B&B was legally established, thus becoming the first widespread B&B in Marche.
The project favoured the development of a concept of receptivity that has the guest and the host in the centre, this latter being the first ambassador and promoter of their land and its beauty. The first step in the constitution of the purveyors’ network, was the compilation of contractual arrangements among museums, bathing establishments, tourist guides, restaurants etc to offer tourists the best of the territory for a discounted price.
In this revisited concept of hospitality, the host does not only offer the overnight stay, but supports the visitor in the planning of their trip by educating them about the highlights of the area.
The guests at Monte Santo widespread B&B can live an authentic, empowering and mindful experience.
